Four-member Table Tennis team in Cuba for CAC qualifiers

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Feb. 28.2018 -THE St. Kitts-Nevis Table Tennis Association (SKNTTA) has sent a four-member delegation to compete at the Special Event Qualifier of the ‘JCC Barranquilla and Latin American Championship’ in Havana, Cuba. 

    The team departed the Federation on February 25, and comprises coach Urban Freeman, Angelisa Freeman, Shaniqua Esdaille and Shaquan Hodge.

    According to information obtained by SKNVibes Sports, the team will compete in the Central America and Caribbean Qualifiers which is scheduled to run from February 28 to March 4, while the Latin America Championship will run from March 4 to 9.

    Coach Freeman underscored the importance of the event, saying that it is to assess the athlete’s development.

    He stated that the young athletes that form part of the delegation represent the future of the sport in St. Kitts and Nevis and ought to take ownership and responsibility entrusted in them to make the nation proud.

    SKNTTA President, Calvin Lake expressed optimism that the contingent can compete and do well at the championship.

    “This exposure allows the athletes in particular to develop the mental strength, confidence and match experience to compete on the international stage.” He acknowledged the significant investment placed in table tennis athletes by the St. Kitts and Nevis Olympic Committee in financing the trip to Cuba.

    The Central America and Caribbean Games will run from July 19 to August 3 in Barranquilla, Colombia.
