NHC presents refrigerator to church

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Mar.1.2018 – CONTINUING with its mantra of building homes, communities and family, the National Housing Corporation (NHC) today presented a Premier refrigerator to the KC Jones Baptist Church.

The church recently constructed a multi-purpose youth center in the Bourryeau and is in the process of having it furnished.

According to church member Melvin James, the religious institution is not only interested in saving souls, but also manages outreach programmes to children between ages 5 to 20.

He explained that every Easter, a number of children from around the region travel to the federation for a youth camp, often held at the church.

The camp, he said, seeks to instill positive values in children.

“We have this center here which was done by some members and donors. It is new, and it will be opened shortly; however, we do not have any furnishing and we are very happy for our very first donation,” James said.

General Manager at the National Housing Corporation, Elreter Simpson-Browne said their motto, “Committed to Family”, encapsulates communities as well.

A prime example of this, according to Simpson-Brown, is the donation they made to the islands affected by Hurricanes Irma and Maria – where they donated a quantity of bottled water.

She stated that when the request came, and they read what it was about, they recognized that it ties into their family motto.

“We were inclined to donate. This is a community that is active, and from my understanding, this multi-purpose center will be used for several positive uplifting activities for our youths. And you know that we cannot do enough positive activities for the youths in the Federation.”

She stated that the first activity for the center will be a camp for regional participants, and thereafter the center will be used for mentorship and other positive developmental activities for youths.

To this end, she disclosed that they are not only interested in housing anymore, but rather, in the entire definition of Human Settlement.

“That means we are all about building our communities; bringing families together. I am very happy that NHC can help in this regard.”
