BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Mar. 03.2018 -AS the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP) gears up for elections, whenever it is called, it will be fielding at least four new candidates.
That reminder was made on Wednesday (Feb. 28) at the Party’s monthly press conference, where leader, Dr. Denzil Douglas told reporters that names will be announced during scheduled activities later this year.
SKNVibes asked the leader when the party plans to make the announcement of the official names, and he explained that the announcement will come as part of the party’s timetable.
He said that will form part of the overall announcement of all the candidates which will include Dr. Douglas, Marcella Liburd, Konris Maynard and Dr. Terrance Drew.
The new candidates form part of a rebranding process that the party has undertaken since it lost the 2015 General Elections.
At the party’s January press conference, Dr. Douglas had explained that 2018 is a year of change for the SKNLP.
“This year 2018 will be the year of rebranding of the St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party (SKNLP). We will continue to challenge the government on behalf of the people, where the Team Unity Government has failed.”
Douglas disclosed that their policies will invigorate the youth agenda started under the last Labour Party administration.
That formed part of the overall election plan should the party be returned following the next elections.
“We will ensure that there is dignity, and return pride to our public service; that they will be happy again to serve the interests of the people of St. Kitts and Nevis and not continue to work under intense pressure with total disregard to their health and welfare, when as a result of the pressure and intimidation, they are leaving the service by retiring prematurely and others are experiencing severe health issues.”
Since losing at the polls, party leaders have raised issues with the governance of the Timothy Harris-led Team Unity Administration.
The party has claimed victimization, corruption and nepotism on many fronts in the public sector.
