(The St. Christopher National Trust) February 20, 2018 -- There are only days left to visit the "Emancipation Journey: The First 100 Years” Special Exhibit, open now at the National Museum.
On display is the original, handwritten Act for the Abolition of Slavery - The Emancipation Act - that was passed in the local legislature in July 1834 to come into effect on August 1st.
Also on display are original copies of four other related documents, including the controversial “Masters and Servants Act,” a copy of the text of the Emancipation Proclamation and a compensation claim made by a former enslaver for the loss of his ‘property.’
The Exhibition, hosted in collaboration with the National Archives, closes on Friday March 16th.
The Museum is open Monday - Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
