BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Mar. 06.2018 -  FOLLOWING the gruesome hacking death of Naomi and Jimmyliah Finch, several politicians have paid homage to the young sisters.

St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party caretaker for Constituency #8, Dr. Terrance Drew said he is saddened by the tragedy that took place in Keys Vvillage which saw the two young ladies losing their lives to violence.

In a recent post, Drew disclosed that he visited the grieving family and expressed his heartfelt condolences.

He reminded that that was the third murder in the constituency since the year began; emphasizing that he has been doing and will continue to do his extra classes, basketball league, football league, scholarships, medical service to shut-ins, youth program and a youth conference to hear from the youths.

“I encourage all of us to do our part no matter how small it is.  We just cannot continue like this.

“I take this opportunity to extend condolences to both families and the entire community of Keys. Everyone is stunned and in shock.”

Peoples Action Movement (PAM) Caretaker for Constituency #2, Ambassador Jonel Powell on his social media said, “As we remember this week's victims of acts of violence and their families, let us all fight against this senseless behavior, particularly violence against women.”

He called on the citizens and residents to look to young positive role models, such as Mikiah Herbert Harrigan.

Marcella Liburd, Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #2, in a post to social media said she is still heartbroken and devastated by the gruesome murder of the two sisters.

“Nyomi was pregnant so it was three lives lost in such savage fashion,” Liburd said. “As a mother myself, I cannot begin to imagine Dee’s emotional state. To have your two daughters and a grandchild that was on the way all murdered in such a vicious attack is enough to break anybody down.”

Liburd continued: “I have for some time been agonizing and speaking out about the increase in the number of women who are now murder victims. I again call on the Ministry of Gender Affairs to initiate projects to help protect women from becoming the victims of gender-based violence.”

A number of other officials and government agencies have come out to condemn the killing.

On Thursday last, police turned up to a house in Keys Village after receiving a report of a stabbing incident; however, when they arrived, they found two bodies with what appeared to be chop wounds.

Those are believed to be the cause of death of the young ladies.
