BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, March 7, 2018 (Press Unit in the Office of the Prime Minister) – The diligent work put forth by the Team Unity Government to turn around the economic and social landscape of St. Kitts and Nevis that has led to an improved standard of living for Kittitians and Nevisians everywhere was highlighted and applauded by ordinary men and women in the country.

This show of gratitude for what the Team Unity Administration has done and continues to do was expressed Tuesday (March 6) evening during the third in a series of town hall meetings organized by the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis. Tuesday’s meeting was held at the Sandy Point Community Centre.

Following the spirited and informative presentations by Minister of State within the Ministry of Health, Gender Affairs et al., the Honourable Wendy Phipps; Deputy Prime Minister and Parliamentary Representative for Constituency #5, the Honourable Shawn Richards, and Prime Minister, Dr. the Honourable Timothy Harris, one by one individuals got up and commended the Team Unity Administration for the strides it has made in just three years to improve the lives of Kittitians and Nevisians at home and abroad.

Mr. Glenville Mills of Sandy Point expressed sincere thanks and gratitude to the Honourable Shawn Richards for the work he has done to bring about better quality of life in Constituency #5.

“I am grateful for the deputy prime minister because when I look above me, I see some beautiful project houses. Just a little below, I see the lovely new recreation grounds and what enhances it are those beautiful lights that the deputy prime minister brought there,” Mr. Mills stated.

Popular calypsonian, Sylvester “King Socrates” Hodge, said the Government has indeed accomplished much in a short space of three years. He added, “I am here to say thank you to the Government and all the folks who made things possible for all you have done over the past three years in keeping faith with the promises you made to the people and all that you have been able to achieve in terms of development in the country. I’ve been known for many years as a so-called PAM calypsonian but I am first and foremost a national and I am very happy and honoured with the progress I have seen over the past three years.”

Other residents of Sandy Point and Constituency #5 were particularly elated with the news that agreements were signed on Sunday, March 4, for the construction of the luxurious Six Senses Resort and Spa at La Vallee Greens.

Ms. Cyndie Demming stated, “We want to congratulate Team Unity especially for the news we had on the weekend with the signing ceremony of the Six Senses Hotel, and Mr. Richards, Sandy Pointers are saying to you through me that we want most of those jobs…and when the construction starts, young men – the prime minister said tonight don’t say there aren’t any job opportunities – please go and apply.”

The Team Unity Government was also commended for introducing traffic lights in Basseterre, which has since significantly reduced traffic congestion in the capital city. Cabinet members were also urged to stay connected to the people through more events such as town hall meetings and one-on-one consultations within their respective constituencies.
