Lima; 14 March 2018: Panam Sports President Neven Ilic has expressed his delight at the progress the Lima 2019 Organising Committee is making, following his inspection of key venues for next year’s Pan American Games.

Neven Ilic, who is in Lima for a Panam Sports Executive Committee meeting, was taken on a tour of Lima 2019 venues, including: the Estadio Nacional of Peru, which will host the Opening and Closing Ceremonies; the Athletes’ Village, which will be home to the majority of the athletes competing at the Games; and the Videna sports complex, which will host a variety of competitions, including swimming, athletics, cycling, badminton and handball.

Neven Ilic was joined on the tour by members of the Panam Sports Executive Committee and Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus.

Speaking on Lima 2019’s progress, Panam Sports President Neven Ilic said:
“My team and I have had a very productive day inspecting the progress at some of the key Lima 2019 venues. Our first stop was at the Estadio Nacional of Peru, which I had not visited before. The facilities are world-class and this will be a fantastic venue for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

“We then visited the Athletes’ Village, which continues to surprise me. It is being built at an incredible rate and we are confident that it will be delivered on time and to a high standard. We also inspected the work being carried out at Videna. I am optimistic given the effort being made, but we do not have any time to lose.

“Overall, we are delighted with the progress being made by Lima 2019. We are seeing a real commitment from Carlos and his team to put on a memorable and high-quality Pan American Games in 2019.

Speaking after the Panam Sports visit, Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus said:
“It is pleasure to welcome Neven and his team back to Lima. We have been working very hard to get preparations back on track and have been eager to share our progress with our friends at Panam Sports.

“Their feedback has been very positive and it will encourage us to keep moving towards our main objective – staging a memorable event that will leave a lasting legacy for Lima, Peru and the entire Pan American region.”
