BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Mar. 15.2018 – PRIME MINISTER, Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris has confirmed that the government will be covering all the cost associated with the funeral of the two sisters that were gruesomely killed in Keys.
On Thursday, March 1, Naomi and Jimmyliah Finch were found murdered in the Keys area.
According to police, Naomi was strangled while Jimmyliah’s body bore chop wounds.
At his monthly press conference yesterday (Mar. 14), Dr. Harris explained that they mourn the loss of the two sisters, adding that he personally met with the mother Desiree Finch.
It was against that backdrop, that he offered tangible support to the family, committing that his government, through the ministries of National Security and Gender Affairs, will bear the cost of the funeral expenses for the two sisters.
“Additionally, we have been providing counselling support to the family members,” he said.
With the Federation joining the rest of the world in celebrating International Women’s Day, Dr. Harris pointed out that while there are many good things happening, including the breaking of the glass ceiling for women, they are dismayed by the cruel hand of violence exercised against womenfolk.
“To be clear, the government condemns violence in all its forms, but we maintain that violence against women and children is most reprehensible and egregious.”
To this end, they are moving to have all protocols in place to have the Domestic Violence Act.
According to Harris, the cabinet is currently reviewing the amendments to the draft domestic and sexual violence and response protocol.
“This document has again been updated with support from the legal department and the Magistracy to include, among other matters, privacy of victims of violence when making official statements to the police and in court.
