Lima, Peru; 19 March 2018 -- Lima 2019 has appointed the Spanish and Peruvian construction consortium formed by Obrascon Huarte Lain S.A. and JE Construcciones Generales to build the Villa El Salvador multi-sport complex, one of the major venues for the next Pan American and Parapan American Games.

In total, 58 companies and consortiums applied for the public tender, which was administered by the UK under the terms of the government-to-government agreement signed with Peru in April 2016.

The Obrascon Huarte Lain S.A. (Spain) and JE Construcciones Generales (Peru) consortium was one of seven companies and consortiums from Peru, Chile, Spain and France shortlisted for the project in the coastal district.

The multi-sport complex, which will be located close to the Pan American Village, will host the volleyball, gymnastics, basketball, handball, futsal, fencing, badminton, wrestling, karate, and table tennis competitions.

The venue will cover a total area of 18,700m2 and will be split into two blocks – one for competitions with a capacity for 6,100 spectators and the other for warmup and training.

Speaking after the appointment of Obrascon Huarte Lain S.A. and JE Construcciones Generales, Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus said:

“We are delighted to have appointed Obrascon Huarte Lain S.A. and JE Construcciones for the works at the Villa El Salvador multi-sport complex. Their excellent credentials combined with a competitive proposal to build a high-quality and affordable venue meant they came out of a tender, which generated a lot of interest, on top.

“Lima 2019 is an investment in the future. The Games will leave a meaningful legacy for the people of Villa El Salvador, Lima and Peru by delivering new sports facilities to under-served communities. After the Games, the multi-sport complex will be available for use by the local community as well as elite athletes.”
