Electoral Office presents public open house

By: Supervisor of Elections, Press Release

March 20th 2018 -- As public servants, the staff at the Electoral Office, including the Supervisor of Elections, cannot become embroiled in any public debate with representatives of the people. We do, however, have a responsibility to be professional, honest and open with the people whom we have agreed to serve – that is, all the people.

We are inviting the general public, the people, and especially the Press, to inspect the records at the Electoral Office. They are invited to do so on Thursday 12th April, between the hours of 2:00pm & 3:30 pm. There are only three provisos: (1) call to make an appointment; (2) no pictures will be allowed; and, (3) the inspection will be supervised. We offer this invitation in response to claims about misconduct and irregularities that have been leveled at the Office.

Indeed, members of the St. Kitts and Nevis Labour Party have, upon request, already inspected some of our documents on Friday February 23rd, and have been invited back to inspect the remainder on Thursday 22nd March, during the times already stated. They were particularly interested in the Voter Registers of 2015 to 2017 and all the objection documents.

We have heard of their preliminary report, but await their final report of their findings. Such a report ought to augur well for the imminent reform of the electoral system.

Meanwhile, we remain confident that the voting public of the Federation has been well served by the staff of the Electoral Office. Our aim continues to be one man, one vote in the right place and fairness to all, according to law.

    Elvin Bailey,
    Supervisor of Elections.
