BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Mar. 21.2018 – THE people of Antigua and Barbuda are currently in the process of casting their ballots, following the surprise snap elections called by Prime Minister, Gaston Browne.
Browne called elections one year earlier than it is constitutionally due, and his Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) is confident of returning to government.
But the Opposition United Progressive Party (UPP) believes that it will win resoundingly at the polls.
The party said that based on its manifesto and the feedback it has received to date, it has given them the echo that victory is in sight.
“With reference to the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party, they have made some promises and have not delivered on 98 percent of those promises,” the party said.
A UPP personnel explained that when it comes to the hurricanes and the response from the government, it will have some impact on a section of the voting public.
They pointed out that it will have an impact on a small percentage of the voting population, especially those from neighbouring Barbuda.
The party it was noted, is confident of winning majority, if not all of the seats at today’s elections.
The party’s representative explained that based on the responses they would have garnered from the people, many are questioning why they voted for the ABLP at the last general elections.
SKNVibes News reached out to the ABLP’s office for a comment but was unsuccessful.
Over 50 candidates are vying for a total of 17 seats at the elections; on offer are 16 seats on Antigua and 1 on Barbuda.
In the 2014 General Elections, Browne’s ABLP won 14 of the 17 seats on offer.
