BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Mar. 22.2018 - THE police force has confirmed that three juveniles from the Charles E Mills Secondary School were yesterday (Mar. 21) taken into custody in relation to a fighting incident.
Superintendent of police with responsibility for the Sandy Point Division, Lionel Moore, confirmed to SKNVibes News that shortly after midday yesterday, four students were involved in a fight a short distance from the learning institution.
He said that one was injured while the three others were taken into police custody.
Early reports indicated that the incident was gang-related, but Moore explained that the police at this point cannot classify the incident as such since they are still investigating the circumstances.
According to the Superintendent, shortly after the incident, the Special Victims Unit was informed along with the Probation Office and the Sandy Point Police Station.
It was confirmed that no gun was found on any of the students as was being reported.
All of the students taken into custody were released late yesterday.
This latest fight has thrown safety and security of students back into the spotlight.
It has been reported in several sections of the media that two popular secondary learning institutions have seen increased gang-related activities.
SKNVibes reached out to the Ministry of Education for a comment on this latest incident but were unsuccessful.
The Chief Education Officer’s office told this media house that they do not comment on such matters.
Police are continuing with their investigations into this latest incident.
