(EMU) – St. Kitts, March 22, 2018 -- Designed to empower the students at the Saddlers Secondary School, the Ministry of Education, Principal and Staff conducted a Symposium for the fifth form students on Wednesday 21st March.
Held at the Ocean Terrace Inn’s Conference Room, the symposium emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to uniting students and honing their skills in all fields of development. The exciting day encompassed sessions around the topics, ‘Communication Skills and Decorum as well as Study Tips and Skills.’
“Transforming Our Attitudes for a Rewarding Future” was the theme selected for the symposium. An interactive panel discussion was held during the afternoon’s segment. The panellists were engaged in dynamic discussions surrounding college advisement and choosing the right program of study and the importance of having a skill in today’s job market.
Principal of the Saddlers Secondary School, Mrs. Julia Byron-Isaac impressed upon the students how invaluable an opportunity they had at the symposium to benefit from the experience of academics and as such encouraged them to take full advantage. “I want to impress upon you how important it is for you to take your future into the scope that it should be. Everything that is important lies on the CSEC examinations that are approaching.” She continued, “Your future; make sure that it is fruitful, ensure that you leave a legacy behind and have a vision of what is important to everyone around you.”
Declaring the symposium open was the Advisor in the Ministry of Youth, Mr. Vernon Connor. He advised the students to be open-minded about their future, “Reform yourselves, reform your habits, and ensure that if you are not doing the right things for success, you make a reformation immediately. When you change your mind you will change you manner of thinking and your mind will then only see success.”
The day-long symposium was the ideal venture for the students to be educated, informed and inspired. Empowering the youth of the Federation is the Ministry’s chief mission as it seeks to enable individuals to develop and achieve their full potential.
Speaking on behalf of the Ministry at the opening, Mrs. Eleanor Phillip, Senior Assistant Secretary stated that the Symposium reflects the Ministry’s concern for the youth, “Please know that you are surrounded by people who deeply care about you, who are guided by a passion for helping you to reach your potential and who wholeheartedly believe that you can do it.”
Additionally she declared, “The Ministry of Education supports and encourages each of you to fulfil your true potential. We want to help you to help improve your world. Do not hesitate to let us know if there is anything we can do during this process, as you press forward to improve yourself and to make our world a better place.”
