Sugar Boyz battling Dominican Republic on the road

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Mar. 23.2018 – THE St. Kitts-Nevis national men’s football team will begin its preparation for September’s League of Nations Qualifiers with their first of two scheduled international friendly matches on Sunday (Mar. 25).

The Sugar Boyz will venture to Santiago, Dominican Republic to lock horns with that nation before tackling Jamaica’s Reggae Boyz on the April 26.

General Secretary of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), Stanley Jacobs said they are expecting a tough but competitive encounter on Sunday.

“The Dominican Republic being one of the rising teams in CONCACAF, we anticipate that this will be a good preparation and a good test for our boys,” Jacobs stated.

Additionally, he revealed that a few days ago the association completed signing the contract with the Jamaica Football Federation for the staging of a home match against the Reggae Boyz.

All member associations in the Caribbean Football Union and CONCACAF are expecting a busy year, and St. Kitts and Nevis will be no different.

According to Jacobs, this year will see the SKNFA engaging a number of teams for friendly matches as they prepare for the new CONCACAF Nations League.

The tournament was launched recently, and it aims to provide more games for CONCACAF teams in a structured league format.

Jacobs explained that the aim of the SKNFA is to provide two to three warm-up matches before commencing the qualifying round of the Nations League.

“The calendar year for the St. Kitts Nevis Men’s team looks very active as we try to give the team a minimum of three to four warm up matches as we head into the CONCACAF Nations League,” he said.

Jacobs added that: “CONCACAF Nations League is brand new and (the friendly matches) are opportunities to prepare ourselves. The Nations League is designed to provide more meaningful matches within the confederation and it puts all 41 members within the confederation to play with each other…that can only hold well for football within the CONCACAF region.”
