BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Mar. 26.2018 – THE Charles E. Mills Secondary School successfully defended its Interschool championship title last evening (Mar. 25) at the Kim Collins Athletics Stadium.

The team recorded 62 medals after the dust settled, 27 Gold Medals, 16 Silver Medals and 19 Bronze medals.

They were followed in a distant second by the Washington Archibald High School with 50 Medals: 16 Golds medals, 12 Silver medals and 22 Bronze medals.

Charlestown Secondary took home third with 41 medals, Basseterre High fourth with 37 and Immaculate Conception Catholic School fifth with 13 medals.

This is the fifth consecutive time that  the team won the national title, and it came as no surprise to coach, Llewelyn Pike.

He told reporters after the meet that he was expecting the dominance, which saw the team nearing the 30 Gold medal mark.

Pike pointed out that after attending a technical meeting and reviewing his squad, he was estimating that they would have garnered 27 Gold medals, a goal they achieved.

Pressed for a comment on the secret behind the institution's success over the years, the coach pointed out that it is the structure of the athletics in the schools that allows for dominance.

He revealed that the institution has over the years received top athletes from the various schools.

President of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (SKNAAA), Val Henry saluted the success of all athletes and schools.

He expressed appreciation for the hard work and dedication that was put in by all involved.
“To everyone who played a part and to the fans, the SKNAAA says thank you!”

To this end, he called on everyone to support the Gulf Insurance Primary School Championships  which takes place in Nevis on Wednesday, 28 March.
