More friendly games on the card for Sugar Boyz

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Mar. 29.2018 – WITH the St. Kitts-Nevis National Men’s Senior team in full preparation mode for the CONCACAF League of Nations Qualifiers, more international friendly games are on the card.

The team confirmed two games; one that was played on Sunday (Mar. 26) against the Dominican Republic, and an April 26 encounter against the Jamaica Reggae Boyz.

According to the General Secretary of the St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA), they are currently in the process of engaging two Latin American teams for matches.

“We are in discussions with a number of countries and we are expecting to have Martinique here in August. We are also in discussions with Nicaragua and Honduras – so definitely we will be seeing more friendly matches.”

That confirmation comes against the backdrop of the Sugar Boyz going under to their Spanish counterparts from the Dominican Republic 2-1.

Reports out of the Dominican Republic indicated that Yohannes Mitchum scored the consolation goal for team St. Kitts-Nevis.

According to Jacobs, despite the loss they are taking positives out of it since it was used as a warm up game against one of the top teams in the CONCACAF region.

He told SKNVibes that the game presented the team with a very good opportunity to engage one of the top nations in the region

“There is still a long way to go in terms of being successful in the Nations League. We will continue to work along that path as we now turn our attention to the encounter against Jamaica.”

Jacobs noted that the policy of the SKNFA is to continue to ensure that they provide the team with the best opportunities to play.

He disclosed that the more matches the team plays the more they will be better able to engage the top teams in the qualifiers.

Team St. Kitts-Nevis is scheduled to play powerhouse Canada, Puerto Rico, St. Martin and Suriname - beginning in September.
