PM Harris spends Good Friday with Constituents

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Apr. 1.2018 – PRIME MINISTER, Dr. Timothy Harris continued with his annual Easter kite flying tradition with his constituents at Black Rocks, as he seeks to revive the cultural customs surrounding the season.

On Friday (Mar. 30), he joined with hundreds of family, supporters and well-wishers in a fun day celebration to commemorate the Easter weekend.

According to the prime minister, the purpose of the yearly event is to return that cultural tradition of kite flying to the people of St. Kitts and Nevis.

Traditionally, the event sees participation from persons throughout the federation and this year was no different.

“Part of what the constituency seeks to do is rebuild interest in a culture, our tradition. A big part of that story growing up is about kite flying. It was a time when people get together on their pasture and in their yard.”

Dr. Harris pointed out that the culture was lost over the years, and his event though small seeks to revive that tradition.

This year was the eighth edition of the kite flying competition and family fun day event.

“What we want is for this tradition to pass to the young people and add to the preservation of our tradition and values that has helped create a constructive engagement for our young people,” Dr. Harris intimated.

The prime minister noted that he has seen renewed interest in participation from the various sections of St. Kitts and Nevis over the years.

Meanwhile, he is urging persons to remember the true purpose of the Easter season, which is the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

He told SKNVibes that he wants persons to understand that though they are going through their own troubles,  overall they can triumph.

“That is what Easter is really about: Triumph over tribulations. The triumph over the sins, tricks and betrayals…So that message comes up with the celebrations, secular as they are they bare goodwill and a sense of something bright is happening and allows people to focus on Christ.”
