SKN Captures Four medals at CARIFTA Games

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Apr. 3.2018 – THE team from St. Kitts and Nevis that competed at the 2018 CARIFTA Games in Nassau, ended the top regional meet with four medals.

The team bagged one Gold medal and three Bronze at the end of the four-day junior athletics extravaganza.

Stand-out athlete for the St. Kitts and Nevis team was 13-year-old Trishanni Warner, who took gold in the Girls Under-17 800 meters, in 2:15.73 seconds.

Vice president of the St. Kitts-Nevis Amateur Athletics Association (SKNAAA), Evris Huggins told SKNVibes Sports that overall the team performed “favourably well”.

The performance, he reminded, is the country’s best since the hosting of the 2015 Games.

“We are quite happy about that. We are quite happy with the fact that close to 50% of the overall team secured medals, whether it be through the individual events or through the relays.”

Huggins stated that they are happy that  a 13-year-old was able to secure the gold medal.

“We are quite happy with that, and the SKNAAA plans to ensure that such talent is preserved.”

He said the SKNAAA and its selectors are satisfied with the US$60,000 investment to have St. Kitts and Nevis represented, which has paid off with the team’s performance.

The government contributed EC$50, 000 towards the team’s trip to the Bahamas, which in turn went into offsetting the high cost for the charter flight to the Bahamas, Huggins revealed.

The 20-member athletics team returns to the Federation this afternoon.
