Dr Harris mourns industrial site pioneer

Dr Timothy Harris, Minister of Finance, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs

BASSETERRE ST. KITTS (July 16, 2009) -- Federal Minister of Finance, International Trade, Industry, Commerce and Consumer Affairs, Dr Timothy Harris has expressed deep sense of shock and dismay at the recent passing of Laurie Mezzalingua, the founder and president of Kajola-Kristanda Ltd which is based at the CAP Southwell Industrial Site.

In a communication to Jose Rosa, the general manager of Kajola-Kristanda Ltd, Minister Harris extended his heartfelt condolences and that of the Government to Mezzalingua’s family, management and staff of the company and her friends. The communication was copied to Mark Wilkin, president of the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

“For all of us who knew her, there is absolutely no doubt that she was one of the finest and most caring persons ever to have touched the lives of the people of the Federation,” said Dr Harris.

“Her entrepreneurial, humanitarian and philanthropic contributions to this country are both very extensive and profound, and are superseded only by the incandescent and ever flowing love which she generated to and for so many persons across this land.”

According to Minister Harris, Laurie’s legacy which she has left in spheres of industry, education, health and social development in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis will perpetually shine as a beacon through the lives of many in the Federation, while the edifices that she has constructed will serve as long lasting shrines to her work among the general public.

“It is certainly a tribute to Laurie’s untiring efforts and boundless zeal that Kajola-Kristada Ltd ranks among the leading manufacturing companies in this country, and the impact of the Catholic educational endeavour has been enhanced in the nation,” observed Dr Harris. “Our people’s love and appreciation of, and for her, will forever remain, and we know that the caring God, whom she trusted and served, will keep her in perfect peace.”

    END
