April 6th, 2018 -- Rams Village Superstars and SOL IAS Conaree F.C. are the finalists for this year’s Easter Cup. Village advanced to the finals after a nail-biting finish to their semifinal encounter versus the Flow 4G Cayon Rockets. Conaree easily disposed of Hobson Enterprises Garden Hotspurs 4-0 to book their spot.
It was a ding dong battle from the start between Village and Cayon. Village led 2-1 at half time with goals from Travis Somersall in the 17th minute and Levanje Liburd during first half stoppage time. Cayon not to be outdone, just before the halftime mark got one back courtesy of a Kevin Benjamin penalty in the 45+5 minute, one minute after Village’s second goal.
In the second half Cayon fought back and found an equalizer in the 78th from a Leverton Jeffers strike, but a minute later Village struck back with a goal from Gvaune Amory; blowing the game wide open. Cayon continued pressing and despite Village creating more opportunities, Nigel Thom of Cayon scored in the very last minute of play to draw the match 3-3 at the end of regulation time. As per the rules of the competition, it was straight to penalty kicks.

Coach Jeffrey Hazel of Village said his team has to play better if they are to win the Easter Cup in Sunday’s finals. “Cayon did well to come back after doing so well in the first half and so it’s for us to grow after this. We have to do better than what we did tonight come the finals,” Hazel said.
Coach George Isaac of Cayon said his players were not focused, hence the reason they lost. “We fought back in the game but we have to give respect to Village,” Isaac said.
In the night’s other semi-final SOL Island Auto Supplies Conaree ran rings around Hobson Enterprises Garden Hotspurs to dispose them 4-0.

Coach Alexis Morris of Conaree said his team came out ready to defend their hold on the Easter Cup. “What we do is use the break to really recuperate and to work and to come back here this evening to play some good football and as we demonstrated from the first whistle, we were on top of Spurs,” the coach said.
He is looking for a keen encounter on Sunday versus Village. “We take no take, no opponent lightly. We will take each opponent one day at a time and it means now we just have to go and whatever we do over the next couple of days is in preparation for the Village game,” Coach Morris added. The finals will be played on Sunday at 7pm at the Warner Park Football Stadium.
