By: Nevis Bureau, SKNVibes

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - NEVIS’ biggest cultural festival, Culturama, is fast approaching, and as preparations are being made for the 35th edition of the annual event SKNVibes intends to profile some characters on the island.

This week’s character is 50-year-old Elroy ‘Dabby’ Powell of Craddock Road, who was questioned on a number of issues including his views on geothermal, crime and public treatment.

How did you get the nickname Dabby? - People always call me by that name, but I don’t like it. I don’t know why they call me so.

What work are you engaged in? - Security Guard and Messenger.

What are your views on crime? - I don’t like to see nobody a break-in people house neither thief or kill. I think they should go look hard work or send them to jail if them can’t stop thief and kill. People ah come from all the way ah St. Kitts to do these crime. When done they say ah Nevis people and nothing go so.

What are your views on geothermal? – Geothermal belongs to everybody in the country. It’s a good plan. I am glad they signed for it.

What do you think about Culturama? - We ain’t want nobody from St. Kitts to come over here and make no noise. We want Nevis people to enjoy the culture. While people keep themselves out of trouble plans gun run good. We no want no police intervene in nothing.

Do you go to church? – Yes, the Methodist Church. I am a Christian for two months now.

How do members of the public treat you? - I am treated well by the Ministers of Government. People on the road treat me real bad. When I ask them for anything they don’t give me, but the Ministers look out for me. The general public does not want to communicate with me. People steal my stuff, and when I to go to the police to make a report they never study me.”
