Weekend Vibes: Weekend Vibes

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – THE West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) are locked in another war of words after the first-choice team boycotted the First Test of the current series with Bangladesh over a number of issues, including non-payment of fees. Weekend Vibes asked Nevisians their opinions on the latest row.

Shenel - I think the players robbing. They should focus on their game more than the money. Some of the players don’t even deserve pay because it’s pure nonsense they do. Yes, there are some great players surrounding the team, but if the players really love the game they would stick around until things get better. I am not saying that the WICB is right, because there must be some internal facts why the cricketers striking but it is not expose to the general public, so we can’t really bash the players.

Lee  - WICB has been in a quandary for a number of years now and the latest issue is a continuation of the whole saga. As I always say, WICB is a reflection of West Indian society in which we never seem to get anything together as a Caribbean people. Both parties involved in the issue must sit and work it out, because if one party trying to get an advantage they might end up winning that battle, but at the end the overall war will be lost.

Ibo  - They need to shuffle up the whole cricket board. Get rid of Chris Gayle and all the rest. They got to get rid of all the selectors. Form a new cricket board. Turn way everybody.

Clench  - They need to turn way everybody and hire a fresh set: new selectors and new board members. It’s not fair to be performing and not getting pay. It is quite unfair to the players.

Keithly Browne  – Well, to me I think it’s unfortunate at this time, the 11th hour of a test match, the players decide to strike because of money. I think it’s unfair to the board because everybody knows the board is not wealthy in terms of money. I think the players, also the WIPA, should come together and compromise with the board and play the game. Just get along with the board that make them as wealthy as they are.
