Brantley: CCM remains committed to the Team Unity construct

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Apr. 10.2018 – PREMIER, Mark Brantley says that his Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) team is currently focused on developing Nevis, rather than pushing for the mantle of Prime Minister in the Team Unity administration, should he be called upon.

His comment comes against the backdrop of speculations that he will take the top political post in the federation.

The rumour was raised after his CCM party won a landslide victory at the 2018 Nevis Island Administration elections in December, following an interview he did with local radio WINN FM prior to the polls.

“No, I cannot comment on that. I think I've been in politics long enough to know that the worst thing we can do is to start to speculate,” Brantley told reporters at his monthly press conference.

While addressing the media at his March 2018 press conference, Premier Brantley indicated that his government is focused on engaging St. Kitts in a very positive way that will benefit the island of Nevis.

He reminded that the relationship between St. Kitts and Nevis “is the best that it has ever been, and I think that is our focus at this point”.

According to Brantley, they intend to go to their electorate when the time comes and point to their record of achievements.

“We have been tested just four months ago and I believe that it is an indication that the people of Nevis are satisfied. Beyond that, I am not prepared to say anything except that we are committed to the Unity concept, which we have committed to working with our partners in St. Kitts.”

The Premier noted that they are looking to extract from the current relationship with Federal Government, the benefits that the people of Nevis are entitled.

“I keep telling everyone that we are equal citizens and country, and we are entitled to the fruits of our citizenship. It is not a favour that has been granted to the people of Nevis that we get some monies that come across the narrows.”
