BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Apr. 10.2018 – A lone strike from Orlando Mitcham in stoppage time was enough to hand SOL Island Auto Conaree F.C. the 2018 Easter Cup title, after they edged out Rams Village Superstars 1-0 on Sunday (Apr. 8) at the Warner Park Football Stadium.
Playing before a fair-sized crowd, each team played attacking football creating a tense battle between both sides.
A small fracas ensued on field between players of both teams leading to Village’ Raheem Francis being given his marching orders in the 70th minute, while Glenroy Samuel of Conaree was issued with a yellow card.
However, that did not stop Village from attacking Conaree on the break, playing their usual counter attacking style football.
But Mitcham was found unmarked in the 18-yard box, and he made no mistake in slotting the ball home for the decisive goal.
Alexis Morris, Coach of Conaree, said the win was indicative of the hard work and impressive play from his team.
“The Conaree Football Club came out with a purpose this evening and our thing is that they (Village) were having the best of us this season and last season, but we know these are the moments that count,” Coach Morris said.
The victory will spur the team on for the remainder of the season in the Premier League, Morris added, stressing that they will be making a push for the playoffs.
“Going through all of this and not being able to make the final four to play for the national championships would not have meant much for us,” he said.
