Junie Hodge remains on leave, says PS Petty

By: Jermine Abel, SkKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Apr. 13.2018 – AFTER much back and forth between himself and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, Osmond Petty, Junie Hodge is still on leave pending the outcome of a review by the Public Service Commission.

In November last year, Hodge told SKNVibes that he was on his way out of the institution, after he received word that his services are no longer needed at the prison.

“As it stands, I am still the Superintendent, but I met with Mr. Petty on Friday last and he told me he was told to inform me, or he was advised to inform me, that when my vacation expires I must not return to the prison,” Hodge told SKNVibes on (Nov. 29).

He told SKNVibes that “some of the senior officers made some allegations against me, one of which stated that they and I are untenable. So, as a result of that, he (the PS) was advised to inform me that I should not return to the prisons”.

“But what I find rather alarming, is that if someone is in charge and a junior rank feels that he has a scene about the person - that is an institution where rank matters - and the rank must be respected, irrespective of how you feel about the person. But I would say there is more to it,” added Hodge.

But PS Petty in responding to a question posed by SKNVibes News at a press conference today (Apr. 13), said that the matter is currently before the Public Service and he cannot comment on the issue.

“Mr. Connor is currently acting Superintendent. Mr. Junie Hodge is on leave. That matter is currently before the commission, and I am therefore not inclined to, at this time get into any details,” Petty said.

He noted that he has not been dismissed.

“He is on leave pending the matter being addressed and being completed by the Public Service Commission,” Petty added.

Hodge, according to Petty, is currently on paid leave.

The embattled Superintendent took over the position in 2016, and immediately closed the prison to carry out a search operation of the various cells.

Following that operation, over 100 contraband items were confiscated.
