BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, JULY 16TH 2009 (CUOPM) – Press Secretary to the Prime Minister, Mr. Erasmus Williams says the Political Leader of the People’s Action Movement (PAM) Mr. Lindsay Grant was not telling the truth when he told SKNVIBES that he was not responsible for those supporters who followed him to Church Street last week.

Mr. Grant, a lawyer told SKNVIBES he did not have a march. He only walked from one place to the other and is not responsible for those who followed him.

But the Press Secretary to the Prime Minister said an audio tape and transcript of the meeting tell a different story and has Mr. Grant telling his supporters that he will lead the way down to Government Headquarters.

The transcript has Mr. Grant as saying:

“I want us to do something symbolic tonight. I want us to do something very symbolic tonight. I am going to ask you to do something tonight. I am going to ask you to do something tonight. And I hope you are behind me to do it.
You want to hear what I want to ask you to do tonight?

We are going to leave from here tonight. We going down to Government Headquarters and we’re going to camp out on the steps of Government Headquarters tonight.

So I am saying to you, we are going to do that symbolic walk tonight. It is not a demonstration. It is a walk, a symbolic walk from here down to the steps of Government Headquarters and we are going to camp out on there until we decide to return to our respective homes tonight. So I want you to get on board, just get ready because we going be walking down there symbolically tonight in our numbers and stand up on the steps of Government Headquarters tonight. Hold strain as we move down and we lead the way down to Church Street.”

Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Williams has confirmed to several media houses the illegality of an impromptu march staged by the leaders and supporters of the People’s Action Movement (PAM).

According to the top cop, the Public Order Act 1969 requires the organisers of any march to receive his/her permission before it is held. He confirmed that no permission had been sought by or granted to the PAM directorate for such an event.

“No application was filed or granted,” said Police Commisioner Williams.
