Antigua Party Monarch Competition set for July 19

    ST. JOHN'S, Antigua- AS the 2009 Antigua Carnival events get ready to take off, the date for the Party Monarch Semi-finals Competition has been set for Sunday July, 19.

     

    The competition, which will see over 30 persons competing, has been divided into two groups - ‘Jumpy’ and ‘Groovy’. 

     

    Among the competitors are Pac Banton, Blade, Byke, Da Rock, King Danskie, King Sonic, Lev, Lil Pimp, Lord Satalyte, Melli B, Niah, Nina Nyce, Omar, Promise, Pump Stan, Queen Elizabrat, Samoya, Shambac, Shani, Sleepy, Soca Chawa, Supa Mario,Tian Winter and Yoko.

     

    Claudette Peters is the reigning Party Monarch after she took the title last year with ‘Jumping Away’.

     

    Antigua’s Carnival was launched on June 13 at the Sandal Grand Resort and Spa and will take place from July 25 to August 4 under the theme “It’s Yours, It’s Mine, Antigua Carnival 2009”. 

     

    The first day will see the opening of Carnival City while the Children’s Carnival will be held on August 26, followed by Queen of the Carnival Show, Teen Splash, Caribbean Melting Pot, and National Panorama.

     

    On Friday, July 31, a number of young ladies will be vying for the Miss Jaycees Caribbean Queen title, and this will be followed by the Party Monarch on Saturday, August 1. The Calypso Monarch Competition will be held on August 2 while J’Ouvert and Parade of Troupes will be held on August 3, followed by Parade of Troupes and Last Lap on August 4.
