Music festival committee makes layout change for event

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Apr. 17.2018 – THE organizing committee for the St. Kitts Music Festival has made a change to the layout of the venue in order to provide a better service to patrons.

According to Chairman of the Planning Committee, Damion Hobson, the decision came following a number of challenges experienced last year with the venue.

“…we feel that by coming together early with our partners…that this is a way for us to get it right for 2018, or certainly put us on the right foot for 2018. We have redesigned the layout. We have redesigned the entire park – the entrance, where the bars are going to be relocated and the way the stage is turned.”

Based on those changes, they are expecting a much better feel for the mega event.

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Stanley Knight explained that the challenge of hosting any event on the cricket grounds of Warner Park, specifically for the Music Festival is in optimizing the use of the venue.

In the past when the festival or any other event is held, cricket and other sports would have to wait for about 6 weeks to two months before the facility can be used.

That, according to the Permanent Secretary,  has to be taken into consideration with the frequency with which cricket is played in the federation.

“We have West Indies in July, we have CPL in August. We are going to have the regional tournament in the latter half of the year. Using that, under normal circumstances you would not be able to literally host anything at that facility but cricket.”

To remedy that situation, the organizers will be using the new matting system that they purchased and used during the 2017/2018 Carnival season. That will protect the ground and the grass from any damage that may result from hosting the event.

Additionally, Knight revealed that they are currently building the capacity of the staff within the Sports Department to deal with such a problem.

Meanwhile, Hobson disclosed that since they released the full lineup for the event in February, ticket sales are moving well.

He stated that thus far 900 general admission tickets have been sold, while another 300 VIP tickets were purchased.
