Magnitude 4.4 earthquake shakes St. Kitts

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, Apr. 18.2018 – PERSONS living on St. Kitts were caught off guard when a magnitude 4.4 earthquake shook the island yesterday (Apr. 17).
     
    At around 4:26 p.m., an earthquake occurred south of Antigua, according the University of the West Indies’ Seismic Research Centre.
     
    According to the agency, the quake’s epicenter was located at 16.95°N and 61.82°W with a magnitude of 4.4 and depth of 21km and was felt in Antigua and Barbuda, St. Kitts and Montserrat. 
     
    That quake followed another on Monday (Apr. 16) in the Southern Caribbean.
      
    According to preliminary reports from the UWI SR Centre, the magnitude 4.2 quake occurred at 13.82 North and Longitude: 58.50 West, with a depth of 70 km.
     
    The quake was registered as occurring 146 km north-east of Barbados, 276 km east of Saint Lucia 299 km east-southeast of Martinique.
     
    The local National Emergency Management agency (NEMA) did not report any damage resulting from the earthquake.
