Brantley: I am not privy to any snap elections

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, May 01.2018 – NEVIS’ Premier, Mark Brantley is unaware of any talk of snap elections, despite fellow politicians urging supporters to turn out for the elections when called.

Responding to a question about snap elections posed by SKNVibes News at his press conference yesterday (Apr.30), the Premier rubbished such talk, pointing out that “I have not heard anything about a snap election”.

He reminded that it was just recently that Nevisians went to the polls to reelect the Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) to lead the island of Nevis, emphasizing that he did not expect to have another local elections for “a little while”.

“I think we have until 2020 and I’ve not been privy to any discussions that an election will come. If an election will come, however; CCM has the best team in the country and we are always ready,” he said.

While speaking at the People’s Action Movement (PAM) convention last month, Deputy Premier, Alexis Jeffers urged the party followers to give their support to the party’s candidate.

“So, all the rhetoric and the talk out there, keep your focus, your focus is on one goal and that is to return your Team Unity to government.”

He pleaded with the people to give the coalition another chance when the time comes.

Leader of the People’s Action Movement, Shawn Richards told the convention that
there is a growing anxiety about the coming general elections, emphasizing that the party is entering a new phase of readiness as it looks ahead to defending their record and position as the leading party in parliament.

“Let it be clear our mission is to increase our seat count from four to six by achieving success in constituency No. 2 for Jonel Powell and No. 6 for Vernon Connor.”

Newly elected Chairman of the PAM, Jonel Powell told the convention that the campaigning should begin now.

“It is only together that we can succeed. It is not all eight that we want, we taking all eleven in this country,” Powell said.

Minister Lindsay Grant urged the three parties that make up the coalition not to be complacent, reminding that there is still work to be done.

“I like to see the energy that we have here. And, I want us to work that energy, I want us to harness that energy; I want us to pull all those energies together from now until when the prime minister decides to call the election.”

Many in the public sphere believes  that the government is currently in campaign mode, meaning that elections are eminent.
