BASSETERRE, St. Kitts,May 02, 2018 – BANK STREET came alive today (May 1) with music, machinery and bright red fire trucks as the St. Kitts and Nevis Fire and Rescue Department brought out for the public to see, touch and asked questions about all of the fascinating gadgets that are used in their fire extinguishing and rescue efforts.

The Open Day was just one of the events for their 2018 week of activities.

Tools such as the Jaws of Life, chainsaw, spreader, mechanical ram, reciprocating saw, lifting bag, bunker gears among other apparatus were on display.

The department also showcased their newest fire truck – the Panther 4x4.

Fire sub-station officer Lesroy Caines told SKNVibes that the display was staged to allow the public to learn more about the Fire and Rescue Department with regards to what they do on a daily basis.

He informed that the public had been very responsive and eager to see and learn about the various paraphernalia the fire men and women use. The children were especially fond of the Panther 4x4 as they were able to be photographed next to it.

The activities continue and conclude this Friday (May 4) on International Firefighters Day with a Drill Competition on the Bay Road where the teams from the various Fire Stations would be competing against each other in One-Man Drill, Endurance Drill and Team Drill.

The competitors will be the Basseterre, Robert L. Bradshaw, Sandy Point, Tabernacle and Nevis Divisions. The Drill Competition begins at 3:00 p.m.
