BVI Press Release
B.V.I. Friday, July 17 – The first Health Minister’s Heart Healthy Walk on the sister island of Virgin Gorda was a success.

Deputy Premier and Minister of Health and Social Development Honourable Dancia Penn OBE, QC led the walk on July 11 and said she was encouraged by the response.

“This was my first Heart Healthy Walk outside of Tortola, and I was very impressed by the good turn out and the active participation from the residents of Virgin Gorda. It was a beautiful morning and we all felt that we had an especially healthy start to the day,” the Minister said.

An estimated 50 residents joined in the walk, which left the Vanterpool Administration Building in the Valley at approximately 5:15 a.m. Many of the persons were at the starting point well ahead of the departure time. Honourable Penn led the walk from the Vanterpool Building down Millionaire Road on to Lee Road (the main road), then up Tower Road to the top of the Baths before returning to the starting point.

The Minister was accompanied to Virgin Gorda by several staff members from the Ministry who also participated in the walk. The event was a collaborative effort between the ministry and the Sister Island Coordinator Mr. Vincent Wheatley.

The Ministry of Health and Social Development aspires to provide leadership that promotes health, social wellbeing, and a safe environment as positive resources for living and sustainable development of the Territory.
