BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE community of Godwin’s Ghaut was rocked today (Jul. 18) when a mid-afternoon shooting took the life of one young man and injured another.

Around 3:00 this afternoon, SKNVibes arrived on the scene to see crowds of villagers lining the Island Main Road as they observed the lifeless body of Dexter ‘Asbal’ Marsham, 24.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that a number of unknown and unmasked assailants opened fire on Marsham following a brief altercation. The report further stated that the assailants fled the scene immediately after the attack.

SKNVibes was reliably informed that the Marsham suffered six to eight fatal gunshot wounds to the head, chest and stomach.

It was also confirmed that another young man, Kyam ‘Yamba’ Viera, received at least one non-fatal gunshot wound during the attack. Viera allegedly left the scene after the incident, and police officials said they are currently searching for him in order to receive assistance in the investigation.

At about 3:50 p.m., District Medical Officer Dr. Norgen Wilson pronounced Marsham dead. Emergency Medical Services personnel tried to console the emotional family members who arrived at the scene after being informed of the tragic news.

According to police officials, there are no leads into the homicide at this point, but further investigations are underway.

Marsham’s death is the Federation’s 15th homicide for 2009, all of which occurred on St. Kitts.
