SKNFA awards clubs working towards Club Licensing Goals

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, May 09.2018 – THE St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) on Sunday (May 06) presented its member clubs with gear as part of attaining its goals of coming in line with the FIFA Club Licensing programme.
The gear was presented during the halftime period of the FA Cup finals played at Warner Park.
Vice President of the SKNFA, Don Grant explained that as part of a promise made during his executive’s run in to the last elections, where, if they were elected they would assist clubs with more funding – came to fruition.
That funding, though, came with strict stipulation and member clubs were assessed in order to be able to benefit.
“We started under the last elections a commitment to the clubs of club assistance which, includes $5,000 to the premier teams and $2, 500 to the First Division teams. Part of it was that, they had to adhere to the Club Licensing Policy that we have. So according to a grade, the premier teams had to have a premier team, female teams, grass roots team and a coach.”
According to Grant, the clubs will soon begin to receive the promised monies.
“All the clubs do not get the same amount of equipment. We went about grading them because of where they were in the licensing process, which continues. It is something that is ongoing. We are also going to start distributing that money, at least half of the monies to the clubs - $2,500 will be given to the Premier teams and $1,225 to the first Division clubs.”
He noted that the donation forms part of the association giving back to the clubs, in order  to continue the enhancement of the local football product.
The enhancement comes as CONCACAF and FIFA are seeking to develop the after school programme, where institutions across the region will soon be competing against each other.

To that end, Grant said that the association wants to continue to build the game from the grassroots level up.

“That is just part of what we are doing now.” he stated.
Funding for the initiative came from a number of areas, and one such is the increase ticket prices.
Part of the increased ticket prices, he noted, goes towards the administrative cost.
But as promised during their elections campaign, Grant and his team is using monies from CONCACAF to  give back to the clubs.
