Nu Vybes rocks Sister Sensia’s Bash

Sweet Sister Sensia
By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Nu Vybes Band ‘handled’ their business last Saturday night (July 18) as they rocked their fans and others at the recently held Sweet Sister Sensia Birthday Bash.

The party was held at the Tennis Club on Victoria Road on and some hundreds of persons enjoyed the sounds of Evolution, DJ Yardy and the Nu Vybes Band.

The past road march champions were experiencing several problems recently which led to the band cancelling a number of their gigs, including their weekly performances at De Lime, their performance at the 13th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival and the recently held Vivid Designs Show.

Leader and lead vocalist of the band Gregory ‘Mr. Mention’ Hobson was very tight-lipped when speaking with SKNVibes about the recent issues concerning the band.

He said that after keyboardist Kelvin ‘Ras Kelly’ Kelly had left the band, they had a great deal of rebuilding to do in terms of the band’s musical as well as its membership.

“Some changes have been made but it is nothing different to everyday life situations,” he said.

Hobson told SKNVibes in a previous interview that they were very busy preparing for a number of upcoming gigs, which included Sweet Sister Sensia’s party.

He said that it was a short time for them to prepare but they would have been ready for it.

And indeed they were, as persons were eager and excited for the band to start playing and lined up outside the grounds of the Tennis Club as the band strike up.

Songs such as ‘Imagine Dat’, ‘Crazy’ and others from their latest album, ‘Breakthrough’, rang out through the night.

Some persons said that the band did not sound quite the same as it did in the past, but they were pleased that it was performing again.

The band performed until the wee hours of the morning and, while they sang “We are the band to rock the party…”, persons were seen rocking the tent that it was playing under.

Hobson said there is chemistry to build with the new members of the band, including Errol Richards, who has replaced Oflyn ‘One Boot’ Rogers, and a guitarist.

He declined to comment on the members leaving but said that the fans should have faith in the band.

Some of the countries in which the band is scheduled to perform are Tortola, Nevis, St. Croix and St. Thomas.
