New Book on Social Security

By: Social Security, Press Release

Tuesday 15th May 2018 -- For the Attention of the Press Corps and the General Public of St. Kitts and Nevis, I am hereby announcing the availability of my newly produced book entitled “Social Security: My Topical Reflections – Essays and Issues”. This book was produced to coincide with the observance of the 40th Anniversary of Social Security in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, as at February 2018. I deem it to be my personal contribution to the said observance activities which began on 1st February 2018. It has been my privilege to have had the foreword to the book penned by Mr. Richard Caines who was a former Chairman of the Board of Social Security from 1980 to 1989.

This publication contains a collection of topical essays and discussion points pertaining to the broad subject matter of social security in St. Kitts and Nevis and the wider Caribbean, as well as my personal opinions and suggestions regarding a bundle of localized topics. The book has also been determined to be my platform for educating and sensitizing all readers to some of the relevant issues that attend the provision of social security coverage, particularly in our Caribbean circumstances.

In Parts One and Two of the book, several discussion points surround a range of relevant topics including a historical overview, management and operational dynamics, governance, etc. Part Three deals with a series of localized ‘issues’; some of which may be considered controversial but not necessarily contentious. The overarching idea is to stimulate a healthy discourse that would inure to the greater development of our instruments of social protection in St. Kitts and Nevis and the Caribbean.

In due course, it is expected that copies will be available for sale at book outlets in St. Kitts and Nevis and copies will be made available to the main public libraries in Basseterre and Charlestown. Copies may also be procured directly from myself as principal marketer. Additionally, purchases can be made online from Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble and other online platforms.

I am willing to make myself available for further inquiry from the press as well as for any opportunities to interact with groups and organizations at their request. During any such interactions, I would be pleased to engage in the traditional ‘book signing’ to accommodate any wishes for personal autographs.

I look forward to this book becoming accepted as a useful tool in generating interest and stimulating discussion amongst a wide cross section of individuals in the public domain.
