Sugar Girls looking to maintain winning start tonight

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts May 23.2018 – THE St. Kitts and Nevis female national team will continue with its quest for World Cup glory when they take on Grenada this evening in Group C of the CONCACAF women’s qualifiers.

The Grenada encounter will kickoff at 4:00 p.m. today at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.

Team St. Kitts and Nevis opened its qualifiers with 2-1 win on Saturday (May 19) over Dominica.

The Sugar Girls opened the scoring in the 8th minute through a strike from Brittney Lawrence. Dominica equalized two minutes later when Romelcia Phillip found the back of the net.

However, Christina Sobers gave team St. Kitts and Nevis the victory, when she found the back of the net after receiving the ball with an open goal.

According to CONCACAF.com, St Kitts-Nevis head coach Earl Jones said, "Our girls stuck to the game plan and it was an excellent result for us."

He noted that it is always good to begin any tournament with a victory.

"It's always positive to start on a winning note because it brings more energy to the team going forward. We had a similar result against Dominica in the Caribbean Challenge Series, but I thought Dominica was better tonight. But we put in a lot of work and the girls deserved the win."

St. Kitts and Nevis is grouped with host Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, the United States Virgin Island and Grenada.
