BASSETERRE, St. Kitts-THE 35th Culturama Festival received a very important financial bolstering earlier today (July 21) as the Christophe Harbour Development Company donated $5 000 to the festivities.

At a brief handing over ceremony at the company’s Port Zante office, Director of Planning and Government Relations Ellis Hazel outlined Christophe Harbour’s commitment to the holistic development of the Federation.

“The Christophe Harbour Development Company from the onset has given its commitment to the economic, social and cultural development of St. Kitts-Nevis. In fact, the developer has created the Christophe Harbour Foundation to provide and enhance in the areas of education, environment and culture development.”

Hazel noted that the donation to Culturama is merely one of the company’s many contributions to St. Kitts-Nevis thus far this year, citing support for the St. Kitts Music Festival and the St. Kitts Sea Turtle Monitoring Network as other recent examples.

Antonio Liburd accepted the cheque on behalf of the Nevis Culturama Committee, and said that the contribution is “highly appreciated” given the current global financial constraints.

“We all know that these are difficult times with the present crunch that we are experiencing in our economy. It is a somewhat mammoth task for us at the Nevis Culturama Committee to stage this, our 35th edition of Nevis’ Culturama Festival.

“A contribution of this magnitude is significant for us because what we have found this year is that many of our sponsors from the past years have cut back their sponsorship,” Liburd said.

He noted that the willingness of Christophe Harbour to contribute to Culturama is the likely to be the foundation for a longstanding relationship between the two entities.

“We approached Christophe Harbour and immediately they locked onto the idea. That is why we always cherish relationships such as these, when persons come forward and willingly want to support the Festival.

“From our end, we are going to do everything we can to make this partnership a longstanding one,” Liburd said.
