BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force has taken yet another illegal firearm off the Federation’s streets.

A police release revealed the seizure occurred during early morning hours yesterday (July 20) at the Basseterre Ferry Terminal. Twenty-nine-year-old Joseph Fahie has been formally charged for possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition.

According to the communiqué, a policeman on duty at the terminal attempted to stop and search Fahie at about 6:40 a.m. Fahie, who was at the time riding a bicycle westwards along the Bay Road, was suspected of having controlled drugs, arms and ammunition.

The Market Street resident resisted the officer's attempt to search him and attempted to remove something from his waist during the struggle. The officer drew his service pistol, which resulted in Fahie sustaining an injury to his leg.

During the officer’s search of Fahie, a number of dangerous items were discovered on his person.

“One .357 Smith and Wesson Revolver and five rounds of ammunition were found in [Fahie’s] waist.  He was arrested and taken to the Basseterre Police Station where he was formally charged for possession of firearm and possession of ammunition, and was remanded to Her Majesty’s Prison after a court appearance.”

The release further stated that Fahie was taken to the Joseph N France Hospital for treatment to his leg. He was later discharged.

The discovery and seizure of the gun brings the number of illegal firearms seized in 2009 to 19. Just a week ago, members of the force discovered 101 rounds of ammunition in an empty plot of land in Molineux. So far, 620 illegal rounds of ammunition have been found by security forces.
