Renovation work underway at Nevis Cultural Complex

CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, May 29.2018 – WITH the start of the 2018 Culturama activities just over a month away, the Nevis Island Administration is currently undertaking renovation work on the seating area, along with the roof at the Nevis Cultural Complex (NCC).

The works are being carried out to the sum of EC $500,000, with Alexis Liburd and Elijah Browne being the contractors.

Premier, Mark Brantley told reporters today (May 29) at his monthly press conference that the works will remedy problems found at the location.

“The work there is going to be largely to do with seating and the roof, which is going to go over the main stage area. We are working on that because there were some leaks and other difficulties there,” he revealed.

The Premier disclosed that there will be a third contractor who will also be undertaking work at the facility. However, due to time constraints, that portion of the renovation work is expected to commence after the festival.

“That contractor I was told -just this morning - will do some cosmetic work and then leave some of the major works until after Culturama.”

SKNVibes News took a walk-through of the facility today, and during that time contractors were working feverishly to construct the new seating area.

Workmen were also observed removing the wooden structures that were on the stage.

With Culturama expected to kick off in July, the Premier was asked why the government waited for the last moment to carry out renovation work, to which he confidently stated, it will be completed on time.

“I think what we ought to say is, when is the job going to be finished? And we are assured that the project will be done in time for Culturama.”

The Complex, according to the Premier, is where a number of the major events, including the queen shows and the calypso event.

“It is a way for us to create a better environment for patrons,” he added.

Just last year, the government spent EC$1.7 million on the Culturama Village a location that the government is currently boasting of.
