CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, May 30. 2018 – THE Premier of Nevis, Mark Brantley has urged government workers to take advantage of the new $30 million housing initative put forward by the federal government.
Brantley, while addressing reporters at his monthly press briefing on Tuesday (May 29) pointed out that the new fund, which is being administered through the Development Bank, is available to all public servants and those attached to statutory agencies.
According to the Premier, individuals looking to borrow can do so up to $300,000 with a minimum interest payment of 5 percent.
It is not limited to first time homeowners, Brantley said, pointing out that monies can also be borrowed make additions to existing home.
“The bottom line is that it is a facility that is available to civil servants…We are hopeful that people will take advantage,” added Brantley.
Prime Minister, Dr. Hon. Timothy Harris made the announcement while addressing citizens and residents an Open Forum at the Edgar T. Morris Primary School recently.
He said that his government is putting the needs of the civil servants at the forefront in development.
According to a statement from the Office of the Prime Minister, the EC$30 million housing and property ownership programme is specifically targeted towards Government employees.
“Police officers, prison officers, teachers and nurses working in government departments wanting to get a house, we say that we would make $30 million available in the first instance to help you.”
