BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, June 2, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Peoples Labour Party/Prime Minister’s Monthly Health Walk continues to attract a wide cross-section of health conscious citizens and residents as was evident  Saturday June 2 when the walk took participants from Belle Vue to Ottley’s in Constituency Number Seven.

Joining Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris at Belle Vue for the walk that started at about 5:25 am was a team of five Americans who are in the country for the Exercise Tradewinds 2018 Phase One which opens in St. Kitts on Monday June 4. They were led by Head of the Local Organising Committee and Lead Planner for St. Kitts and Nevis for Tradewinds 2018, Captain Kayode Sutton of the St. Kitts and Nevis Defence Force.

“We went for a walk for life this morning, to join with fellow Kittitians in being healthy,” said Mr Douglas Fitzgerald, Lead Planner for Tradewinds 2018 for the US Southern Command when asked what they were doing that morning. “It was great fun. Great sunrise, great atmosphere, temperature was perfect - it was a great finish.”

Captain Kayode Sutton observed that the visitors, who were joined for the walk by Defence Force Reservist and local maritime entrepreneur Mr Regiwell Francis, enjoyed the exercise and were pleased that they were able to walk with many participants that included the country’s Prime Minister in a harmonious atmosphere.

Another new group that participated in the walk was a team of police officers and fire officers from the Tabernacle Police Station. According to Sergeant Simeon Liburd, in charge of the Tabernacle Police Station, there were six fire officers and four police officers who took part and noted that they look forward to taking part in the next PLP/PM’s Monthly Health Walk.

As was the usual, competition was stiff as to who would get to the finish point at the Ottley’s Hard Courts in first place. While no official records were taken, participants were unofficially put in two categories. The first category involved those who ran part of the course, and finishing in the first position was Mr Adned Patrick followed by Mr Douglas Wilson both from Constituency Number Seven, and in third place was 12-year old Master Clive Alder from Half Way Tree in Constituency Number Four.

The second category was made up of participants who walked all the way, and finishing jointly in top position were Mr William Phillip from Constituency Number Seven, and Mr Slieh Boncamper from Constituency Number Four. PLP’s Deputy National Political Leader Senator the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett was one of the top finishers.

Prime Minister Harris, who was jovial and did not show any signs of tiredness as he greeted and congratulated his fellow finishers as they were being served a healthy light breakfast by Ms Shirley Williams assisted by Ms Lorraine Thompson, noted how pleased he was that many people are now appreciating the health benefits the walk offers and he encouraged them to regularly continue with the exercises on their own until the date for the next PLP/PM’s Monthly Health Walk is announced.

National officials of the Peoples Labour Party who came out in support of the Prime Minister, who is the PLP’s National Political Leader, included the Hon Akilah Byron-Nisbett, Women’s Arm Representative Mrs Sonia Henry, the two Youth Arm Representatives Mr Damian Weekes and Mr Manasses Huggins, National Party Organiser Mr Alexis Nisbett, and PLP Founding Member Mr William Phillip.

Others were made up of the general membership of the Peoples Labour Party from the different constituency branches, including the following branch chairmen/persons: Mr Nubian Greaux (#2), Ms Petrona Thomas (#4), Mr Glenville Mills (#5), Mr Kevin Williams (#6) and Mr Lenworth Harris (#7).
