BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 05.2018– THE death of octogenarian Iona Nicholas has been ruled a homicide following an autopsy.

The autopsy was performed yesterday (June 4) by Forensic Pathologist, Dr. Valery Alexandrov.

The 82-year-old was found dead in her home by one of her grandsons at about 9:15 p.m. on June 03, 2018.

A police press release reported that Dr. Alexandrov concluded that her death was as a result of mechanical asphyxia due to obstruction of the airway.

“A person was taken into Police custody on June 04 and is assisting with investigations. That person is now considered a person of interest,” the release said.

Police investigations into the matter are ongoing.
