MP Nisbett denies social media rumours

By: Jermine Abel, SKNVibes.com
CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, June 05, 2018 – MEMBER of Parliament for Constituency #11, Hon. Patrice Nisbett has described rumours that he is in discussions with the Team Unity Administration to join their ranks as being “false and malicious”.

That description came as a social media post by SKN Inside Politics, states that: “Opposition MP Patrice Nisbett has been rumoured to be in discussions to join the Team Unity Admonistration as an Ambassador and a Special Advisor. It is being speculated that Nisbett will be assigned specifically to the Prime Ministers Ministry with special advisory responsibilities in the Ministry of Legal and Justice Affairs.”

During a brief speech to SKNVibes News, the reserved MP said “no”, when asked if he will be joining the government in an advisory capacity, instead Nisbett pointed this media house to a press statement.

In that Statement, the Parliamentary Representative said the rumours were brought to his attention, and it was “necessary and compelling to address head on” concerns that may directly have great implications for him, and chiefly for the people of Nevis 11.

“Let me state unequivocally, that as the elected representative of the people of Nevis 11, it is my sole intention to serve and protect their interests, whether in government or in opposition.

“The rumours which have recently surfaced and sped into circulation that I have been offered, and supposedly accepted a position or employment with the Team Unity government are false and malicious and done during this time when the country is calling for transparency in government at the highest level where representatives have lost their way in their pursuit of their personal advancement,” Nisbett said.

He also said that he never entered into discussions nor does he intend to entertain any discussions with “emissaries or leaders of the Team Unity construct in respect of this matter, nor have I sought to negotiate with them or otherwise considered employment in any capacity with the present failing and embattled administration”.

The MP said he can only speculate that the baseless rumours, which have been circulated in some media avenues and on social media, were designed to create “mischief and instability in the minds and hearts of the people”.

Particularly, Nisbett believes that it is centered to his constituents, “simply for political advantage under the cunning guise of extending olive branches and forming alliances in the interest of national unity”.

“Let me make it clear once again, that I, Patrice Nisbett, as a man of integrity and honour, will continue to work for and serve only in the best interest of the people of this Federation and particularly of the people of Nevis and Nevis 11 who have charged me, as their parliamentary representative, with a great responsibility and whose mandate it is my obligation to fulfil,” Nisbett adds.

According to the MP, from his experience, when an election is imminent there are those who would seek to circulate rumours to discredit honourable men. He added that “it seems as if in a short time, I may once again have to call upon you my beloved constituents to renew our mandate at the Federal level”.
