BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 06.2018 – THE Music Festival Committee has indicated that there is no need to have a backup plan for artistes who may be a “no show” at the 22nd annual St. Kitts Music Festival.

At a press conference yesterday (June 5), a question was raised with regards to a surety of one of the headline artiste being present at the show especially since she had become “infamous for being a no show”.

The Music Festival’s Chairman of the Production Committee, Jonel Powell told media representatives that there are stipulations in each artiste’s contract pertaining to non-appearance.

Powell further stated that the committee is confident that the artiste would be present and perform well.

“In relation to Lauren Hill, I know that some persons have raised concerns, however the St. Kitts Music Festival is confident that Ms. Hill will be here and will be one of the better acts that we have seen on the St. Kitts Music Festival. We have absolutely no reason to doubt her or to think that there is an issue with her and her performance and so we look forward to welcoming her and having a fantastic performance from her,” The Production Chairman said.

He went on to say that it was too late for a backup plan to be put in place, adding that the show must go on.

“The reality is, at this point in time you can’t have a plan b. You cannot inform an artiste days before a performance that we want you. Thank God we have DJs on this year but the reality is one person can’t stop the Music Festival, they can’t stop the show and whatever the case may be, we will proceed,” Powell emphasized.

Powell also stated that “You come the St. Kitts Music Festival for the show, whatever that show may be. At the end of the day, we guarantee that you will receive a show that is worth much more than the $135.00”.

With regards to the use of explicit language, Powell announced that the traditional St. Kitts Music Festival no-tolerance for obscene language still stand, adding that the artistes contracts do speak specifically to certain content which are not deemed appropriate.

At the same time we do bear in mind that, based on the nature of the event and the time of the event, we are attracting mature crowds. And so, we do acknowledge that we do have a duty to be responsible at the same time and so we are very much in contact with all of our artistes in terms of explicit content,” he further stated.

Powell informed that all of the artistes are also known to deliver clean versions of their songs and while some of them can be a little raunchier than others, the St. Kitts Music Festival is catering to a mature audience.
