BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOLLOWING the Miss Caribbean Culture Pageant, the Nu Vybes Band of St. Kitts and the Odisi Band of Nevis will be entertaining patrons until the wee hours of the morning.

Persons attending the show will not have to leave the Pageant’s venue when it ends, as the After Party will also be held there.

The Pageant, which will be held on Friday, July 24 at the Cultural Complex, will consist of 10 contestants vying for the coveted title.

Participating countries are Nevis (Tanisha Hendrickson), Anguilla (Fanny Richardson), St. Kitts (Mariece Roberts), Antigua (Jamelia Joseph), Dominica (Kayan Toussaint), Trinidad and Tobago (Joy Joachim), St. John’s (Lea Scott), Montserrat (Loralyn Fergus) British Virgin Islands (Maquita Richards) and St. Croix (Sheniqua Robinson.

It is said that both bands have a major following of fans and would definitely whet patrons’ appetite for what is to come for the 35th Annual Culturama Festival.

Although Nu Vybes, which is an acronym for “new vibrations”, has been experiencing some problems, its members are confident that they will rock the house as the ‘Sugar Band’ is known to do.

The band has spent over 20 years cultivating its extraordinary style of music that is rapidly taking over the Caribbean, North America, and eventually the world.

The talented young musicians have sought to capture their audience through their unique ‘small island sound’.

As the music they create allows listeners to enter a realm, where members of the band share their personal experiences with such songs as ‘Crazy Love’, ‘Family’, ‘Momma don’t Cry’, ‘Imagine Dat’, and hits like ‘People’s Sugar’, ‘Hand Signal’, ‘Step Up’ and ‘Ting Lang’.

According to the band’s leader, they are in the rebuilding stages but would definitely give everyone their monies’ worth at this weekend’s event, as they would be performing some of their releases off their new album - ‘Breakthrough’.

Formed in 2002, the Odisi Band is a young group of talented guys that brought fresh, quality music straight out of Brick Kiln, Nevis.

Riding a wave of hits, the Odisi Band finally attained its first Road March title for Nevis Culturama in 2006. The band sealed the deal for Jouvert 2006 with ‘Can't Do It Like We’ off of its fourth album, ‘Do It Like We’.

The 2008 release, ‘Untouchable’, was said to be an immediate hit and featured singles such as ‘Go Gal’, ‘De Real Edge’, ‘Wine Pon Me’ and the ‘Iron Band Jam’. The album propelled Odisi to ‘lock the city’ and established them as the premier band on Nevis.

Now, in 2009, the band is hoping to gain more success as its members will be vying for the Road March title for the Culturama Festival.

Randy Jeffers, Director of the Pageant, said he is inviting everyone to attend the event and support the contestants.

He paid special thanks to the sponsors, including LIME, Nevis Island Administration, Oualie Beach, Win Air and Carib Breweries.

The contestants will be competing in the Interview, Talent, Swimsuit, Costume and the Evening Wear segments.

“It’s a show of excitement and class and has been one of the leading events for the Culturama Festival,” Jeffers said.
