Conaree and Village Superstars to battle for National league title

By: Staff Reporter, SKNVibes.com
BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 12.2018 – SOL Island Auto Conaree pulled off a remarkable comeback victory against St. Paul’s to book its spot in the 2017/2018 St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association (SKNFA) Premier League finals on Sunday (June 10).

Watched on by a packed Warner Park Stadium, Conaree brushed aside St. Paul’s 4-1 and in the process eliminated the favourites from making the finals and return to play for the top football prize in St. Kitts and Nevis.

Entering Sunday’s game, both teams knew what it would take to make the finals, - nothing less than a win would see Conaree through; and they laid the groundwork with an aggressive start.

St. Paul’s on the contrary needed a draw and they qualify, but Conaree’s Glenroy Samuels dented those hopes when he opened the scoring in the 34th minute.

Omar Francis would equalize in the 53rd minute, but that was as close as they came to qualify, as an Orlando Mitcham strike put Conaree back in front.

Mitcham would double the lead in the 75th minute before Andy Liburd added a fourth in the 83rd minute.

In the second game of a double head evening, 2016/2017 champions FLOW 4G Cayon Rockets failed in its bid to return to the final and defend its Premier League title after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Rams Village Superstars.

Needing to win by a two-goal cushion, Cayon failed as the Superstars’ Joseph Wilkes (87th min) and Tiran Hanley (90th min) stamped their authority on the game.

Cayon struck first, when Carlos Bertie netted in the 23rd minute, but defensive missteps allowed their opponents back into the game.

The result left them rooted at the bottom of the four-team table one point, while Village Superstars remain top on nine points, Conaree in second place on  four points and St. Paul’s in third on three points.

The top two teams progressed to the finals and will contest a best of three championship round to lift the trophy.
