BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 13.2018 – CHAIRMAN of the Culturama Committee, Antonio Abonaty Liburd says they have all the requisite number of participants for the various events, emphasizing that there is no shortage of contestants.
The confirmation comes in the wake of rumours that the committee was having a challenge locating participants ahead of the 2018 cultural extravaganza.
While speaking with SKNVibes News today (June 08), Liburd confirmed that all of the events have the numbers earmarked by the committee, including the pageants.
In denying the rumours of a shortage, Liburd pointed out that they have their big reveal set for this Friday (June 15) at the Charlestown waterfront.
In fact, he noted that the committee today signed off on all of the participants for the various events.
“I actually just came from the Legal Department where I just completed the contract signing process for the participants/contestants for this Friday,” he said.
The 2018 festival kicks off in July and will run until August, providing visitors a cultural showpiece for the island of Nevis.
At Friday’s event, contestants for the Culture Queen Pageant, the Culture Swimwear Pageant, Mr. Cool, the Junior Calypsonians and the Mr. and Ms. Talented Youth will be revealed.
According to Liburd, this year will see six schools competing in the Mr./Ms. Talented youth pageant.
Additionally, participants in the Soca Monarch and Senior Calypso competitions will also be revealed.
The event kicks off from 5:00 p.m. with a number of musical performers.
A statement from the Nevis Island Administration indicated that the Culturama 44 Reveal was previously scheduled for Friday last (June 08), but was postponed due to the internment of Cultural icon the late David Freeman.
This year’s event is being held under the theme: “Fete, Food, Folklore, Culturama 44!”
