Students of Washington Archibald High get training in CPL Youth Series Programme

By: Digicel, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS & NEVIS, Monday, June 18, 2018 – Forty aspiring young cricketers from the Washington Archibald High School had the opportunity to showcase their talents in the Digicel Caribbean Premiere League (CPL), Youth Series programme, which wrapped up yesterday at the Conaree Sports grounds.

This year, the Digicel CPL Youth Series has increased in size and scope, providing more children with the opportunity to hone their cricket skills and learn from the best the game has to offer. Local CPL coaches from St. Kitts were on hand to pass on valuable knowledge.  The students also received a treat with the arrival of West Indies cricketer, Carlos Braithwaite at the event.

“It was delight to see the female players participating in the programme. Female cricket is on the rise and having these young ladies here, means that the sport is in good hands” remarked Braithwaite.  He continued, “Listen to your coaches and your mentors to learn all that you can.  Stay hungry and stay dedicated to your sport.

Ronan McGrane, Regional CEO and CEO of Digicel St. Kitts and Nevis was also on hand and challenged the children to “work hard so that one day we will see the next rising stars of the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots emerging from this talented group. The future of cricket is bright with these youngsters and at Digicel we are pleased to support the development of the sport in the region”.

Digicel is proud to be Founding Sponsor of the CPL since inception in 2013. CPL continues to go from strength to strength as ‘the biggest party in sport’ delivering a unique carnival-like experience to fans and keeping the spirit of the game alive across the region.

The latest way in which the company is doing this is by partnering with CPL for the second year to host the Digicel CPL Youth Series from April to September 2018 in six markets across the region.
The six participating markets are Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia and Trinidad and Tobago.

As a total communications and entertainment provider, Digicel will continue to leverage and maximise all its platforms including mobile, social and TV to bring the excitement and action of CPL to their customers and fans across the region.

Fans can also tune in to a dedicated PlayGo cricket channel for live coverage of the Indian Premier League where a number of CPL stars will be playing, enjoy past CPL games and highlights and watch CPL 2018 Live.
