Prime Minister Harris delivering remarks at the Conaree Wesleyan Holiness Church during its 50th anniversary service
By: Peter Ngunjiri, Press Release

BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, June 26, 2018 (PLP PR Media Inc.) -- Sunday June 24 marked an important milestone for the Conaree Wesleyan Holiness Church in its sacred ecclesiastical journey, as it held a colourful 50th anniversary service. Among those who attended the service to offer his personal congratulations, and Government support, was Prime Minister Dr the Hon Timothy Harris.

The service was held under the theme ‘Grateful for the Past and Claiming Victory for the Future’ and Prime Minister Harris hailed some of the families that had become synonymous with the Wesleyan church, highlighting that the Conaree Church has meant much throughout multiple generations of people and “we want to thank God for those who have anchored this church and kept it going over the last 50 years.”

He told the congregation that people often take for granted that St. Kitts and Nevis is a special country, as in its own independence document, the Constitution, a preamble was placed stating that the country is a Nation under God, which has over the years enabled people to anchor their lives and living in faith in an all-powerful.

The Prime Minister observed that the Conaree Wesleyan Church, like all the Wesleyan churches in St. Kitts and Nevis, was alive and well and he thanked God for all those who have provided leadership and support during those fifty years, noting that they would have weathered storms yet the church stands today to celebrate the will and love of God.

“So when we come to churches, like this, the hall may be battered and I look somewhere there and I say I hope the hurricane don’t come before perhaps we do some replacements,” commented Prime Minister Harris. “The Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs perhaps could do a good deed on your 50th anniversary, and do that repair.”

Prime Minister Harris’ offer was greeted with jubilation by the congregation, taking into consideration the fact that Bishop Ron Collins, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Ecclesiastical Affairs, who represented Senior Minister and Minister of Ecclesiastical Affairs the Hon Vance Amory, also delivered remarks at the anniversary service.

Rev Sylvester Herbert of the Conaree and Basseterre Wesleyan Holiness Churches delivered the welcome remarks, to the scores of worshipers and guests who also included the Governor General’s Deputy Mr Michael Morton and Mrs Morton, and the local area parliamentary representative the Hon Eugene Hamilton who also delivered remarks.

Other remarks were delivered by Chairman of the St. Kitts Evangelical Association Pastor Leroy Matthew, and the Wesleyan Holiness Church District Superintendent for St. Kitts, Nevis and Saba Rev Spencer Watts, while message of the day was delivered by Rev Dr Joel Cumberbatch of Barbados.
